You probably heard the news today: Best Buy is closing 50 stores and laying off around 400 people due to past financial quarter. Or as I like to put it, they suck.
The only thing Best Buy has going for it is that it’s a box store. That’s it. Put their items online with the same prices and they’ll get whupped by Amazon and the like. Well, that’s actually happening right now. The point is Best Buy succeeds when lazy people (I’ve been guilty) need their electronics NOW.
The problem is their pricing is usually ridiculous. A $3-5 markup is a bit understandable. But one example came up to me today.
This is the current price for the Griffin Reveal iPhone 4 case on BestBuy.com. $29.99. I believe my local store had it for $34.99. Okay.
The Reveal goes for $24 (without shipping) on the official Griffin site. So BB.com has a $5 markup. My local store has a $10. Ridiculous.
This is brought to even more ridiculous status when you see that currently, the Reveal is on sale for $6 on Amazon.com (roughly $11 with shipping unless you have Prime.)
Are you kidding me Best Buy? No wonder you’re going down the toilet.
I know I’m not really demonstrating anything new, but I’m still venting. Circuit City may have been the worse, but Best Buy isn’t much better. Down with box stores.
